TS Awareness Month
Government Relations Week

As TS Awareness Month (May 15 – June 15, 2008) approaches, we are planning a number of new and exciting initiatives for this year. Within the TS Awareness Month, the dates of May 26-June 2, 2008 have been chosen as our “Government Relations Awareness Week.”

TSA is asking its Chapters and Support Groups, Family and Friends to raise Awareness about TS in their local communities through meetings and discussions with local elected officials, Members of Congress, and community leaders.  TS Government Relations Awareness Week is designed to raise local, state, and federal elected officials' awareness of issues impacting families living with Tourette Syndrome. The need to address the lack of confirmed diagnoses of TS in medically underserved areas is still critical and must be addressed within our communities. Realizing this goal, we present, “Bridging the Gaps” in the TS Community.

FOUR GOALS OF 2008 GOVERNMENT RELATIONS AWARENESS PROGRAM:

    1. Increase Awareness of Tourette Syndrome (TS): specific information has been provided to all Chapters on how to
raise awareness of TS nationally and locally. If you're not a Chapter member, contact us at the email address or
telephone number below for this information.

    2. Legislative Office Visits: request meetings with your Congressional Members, local elected officials, and
community leaders. For those of you who did not attend TSA's National Conference or participate in the Trip to
the Hill, this is an opportunity to meet with your congressional members without having to travel to
      Washington, D.C.

    3. Write to Your Local Newspaper to share your TS story::  “ASK” that doctors and allied medical professionals
contact the national TSA for a training program. In addition, “Thank” our Congressional champions who
remain committed to the Tourette Syndrome Public Health, Education, and Research Program at the CDC.

    4. Community Outreach Event:  host/co-host and invite local elected officials, community leaders, media and the
public to any of the following suggested types of meetings: TS Informational Session, Town Hall Session, Health
      Forum, and Community Round Tables.

This an exciting time for the TSA, please get involved and take action now.
