An Overview of our Partnership with the CDC

The Tourette Association of America is celebrating its 16th year of partnership with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to provide education and awareness on Tourette to various professional audiences, as well as families, individuals, and the general public. The program, “Tourette Health and Education Program” (THEP) works to expand the ways in which information and education on Tourette is shared.

Through THEP, the Tourette Association develops and presents informational materials for various medical and education professionals who are likely to encounter TS and Tic Disorders. Reaching physicians and other healthcare professionals and educating them about accurate diagnoses and effective treatments can lead to a more streamlined process to receiving care, and ultimately improve lives. THEP also educates teachers and other school personnel to facilitate earlier identification of TS and appropriate educational supports so that students can succeed in school. Finally, we work to educate families about the various issues of living with TS to help them to manage TS and arm them with the knowledge and tools they need when seeking care or support services.

This is an exciting time for the Tourette Association and for THEP as we continue to offer programming to support the TS community with innovative education and resources. Our outreach platforms include face-to-face education workshops, content development, monthly webinars, Facebook Lives, and online support groups that reach people regardless of where they live.
